The Story of Rose the Pregnant Pig

Rose the potbelly pig was found as a stray in Orange County on the streets and was taken to a shelter. The shelter noticed she may be pregnant and upon getting an ultra sound and three babies were seen!

Luckily, Bunny Bunch found a wonderful farm rescue up by San Francisco. A van was rented, a driver was found, and her journey began.

It was about a six hour drive and she arrived safe and sound.

She has a heated barn with with 24/7 cameras, and a lovey outdoor area to explore.

A few days later, we got news from the rescue that she had her babies! All the babies healthy and happy.

Bunny Bunch & Bunny Bunch Boutique (Montclair & Fountain Valley) will be closed for Curbside Pick Up Friday, December 25th and January 1st.

Bunny Bunch & Bunny Bunch Boutique (Montclair location ONLY) will be closing at 4pm on the 24th and the 31st.

⭐All other days are regular pick up hours!

Is your rabbit vaccinated for Rabbit Hemorrhagic Viral Disease 2 (RHVD2)?

All rabbits coming to Bunny Bunch or Bunny Bunch Boutique for Bunny Sitting, Grooming, Nail Trims or Bunny Dating must have been vaccinated 10 days or more before coming in the building. Plus they must live as indoor rabbits.

For a list of vets carrying the vaccine go to bunnybunch.org click resources and see our vet list. We list on there which vets offer it. Call around for pricing and availability as some vets may be out due to the high demand.

It’s our animal fundraiser to help us get beds for all our bunnies to keep them warm and cozy at night. Yes, we are in Southern California but it gets chilly at night time and buns love to be comfy and cozy.

How does it work?
You donate $15 for a single bed $20 for a double bed. We buy the beds as they need to be a certain type that washes well and that several fit in the washing machine at a time.
We have some beds left from last year but need around 100 more.

Keep Your Rabbits 100% Indoors

Every day I talk to people that do not know about Rabbit Hemorrhagic Viral Disease 2 (RHVD2), and the fact that it is highly contagious and now spreading in the US.

It is very important to keep your rabbits vaccinated and 100% indoors even if they have the vaccine.

What Can You Do?
Be aware of cases in your area and be aware of how it’s spread. Just because your rabbit lives indoors doesn’t mean they can’t get it.

How is it spread?
You can walk it into your house on your shoes if you have walked in a place such as a park or any where there are cotton tails, jack rabbits or domestic rabbits that have been infected.

If your rabbit comes in contact with another rabbit that is infected.

Dogs can also bring it into the house if you have walked your dog in an area where there are infected rabbits.

Insects that bite such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas etc that are infected from infected rabbits could bite your rabbit and infect them. Keep all cats and dogs on flea treatment. Vets are suggesting you keep your rabbit on fleas treatment too especially if you have cats or dogs that go outside.

Be aware that most breeders keep their rabbits outdoors. Some breeders rabbits in a Southern California have been infected.

Only adopt rabbits from a reliable rescue or animal shelter. Make sure the rabbits have been quarantined, health checked and vaccinated before you adopt, especially if you have other rabbits.

What are we doing at Bunny Bunch?
*All of our rabbits have been vaccinated at both locations and in our foster homes.

*All of our rabbits live 100% indoors.

*Only rabbits that live indoors and have been vaccinated (we get a copy of the vaccine certificate) for eight days or more are allowed into our buildings for bunny dates, nail trims, grooming, bonding and boarding.

*All items in our rabbits living areas and boarding rabbits living areas are disinfected with “Rescue” disinfectant that kills the RHVD2 virus.

*Our volunteers and staff wear shoe covers inside the building.

*We are not holding any events involving rabbits.

*All newly rescued rabbits are kept indoors in foster homes that do not have any other rabbits. The rabbits are health checked, vaccinated and quarantined before they come to our

Bunny Bunch locations for adoptions.

So for now in this crazy world this is how our rabbits have to live. They can peak outside at the garden, but to save their lives they have to live indoors.

Keep Your Rabbits Cool

It's hot out there!

It’s 116 degrees at my house today here in Southern California and tomorrow is going to be even hotter. It’s such a dangerous time for rabbits and other animals to overheat and die outdoors and indoors.

Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, cats and dogs (plus other little critters) all need to be indoors with AC. What if there is a black out and your AC goes out? Have a back up plan. Talk to friends, relatives and coworkers to see if you can take your animals to their home. Of course with COVID and RVHD2, it’s makes it harder but there is always a way to come up with a safe plan for you and your animals.

Nowadays with many central AC systems you can keep track of your AC with your phone. So while you are away from home you can control your thermostat and see what the temperature is in your home. If you have bunny cam put a thermometer by your rabbits set your so you can see the temperature when you are away from home. It’s a good idea to sign up with a Southern California Edison to get text alerts about rolling black outs.

I keep my home at around 74 degrees to keep all the rabbits, chinchillas and guineas cool and comfortable.

Here are some ways to keep your rabbits, chinchillas, or guinea pigs cool.

*Frozen Water Bottles
Freeze two liter soda bottles. Be sure to remove the label. Fill with water and freeze. Make sure you have spares in the freezer so as they melt, you can replace them. Some rabbits lay right against them while others prefer material such as a light towel or pillow case wrapped around the bottle.

*Cooling Tiles
Put down cooling tiles for your rabbits, chinchillas and guinea pigs to lay on. These will help them to stay cool.

*If your rabbit is breathing hard due to the heat put some cool water on a wash cloth. Wring out the water and apply the wash cloth to the rabbits ears.

*Always have a crock or two of clean cool water for your rabbit to drink. Add a couple of ice cubes now and then to keep it cool. Rabbits don’t tend to drink enough water when the water is given in a water bottle, crocks work better.

*In Your Home
A fan will not cool a rabbit, but it can help circulate the air. Keeping blinds and curtains closed will help stop heat coming in through the windows so your AC doesn’t have to work so hard.
If you don’t have central AC consider getting a wall unit, or portable AC unit.

Signs of Over Heating In Rabbits

*Rabbits don’t pant, but they will start rapid breathing and you will notice their body moving in and out.

*They will normally be in a stretched out laying down position.

*Their head can be in a slightly tilted back position.

*The fur around their nose and mouth can become wet.

Any of the above signs are dangerous and mean your rabbit needs to be cooled down right away. In some cases vet care is needed right away.

How to Cool Down A Rabbit

ACT QUICKLY! Your rabbit can die from being over heated.

*If possible get into air conditioning right away. If you don’t have it in your home start your car and get it cooled down to take the rabbit in there.

*Cool the ears by placing a wet cool wash cloth both inside and outside of both ears.

*Lay the rabbit on a wet cool towel.

*Offer cold water to drink.

*If you happen to have subq fluids give to help hydrate the rabbit.

Please do want you can to keep your animals cool so they don’t over heat. I have received many calls where people have found their rabbit over heated or dead when we reach the high temperatures of summer. In some cases vet care may be needed, if that is the case be sure to take everything you need to cool your rabbit down on the drive to the vet.

Remember prevention is the best remedy. Be prepared and keep your rabbits cool!

As of September 1st, we will require all rabbits to have the RHDV2 vaccine in order to come inside our buildings.

More cases have been reported in Southern California, including Riverside County, Orange County, San Bernardino County and Los Angels County. RVHD2 is highly contagious and deadly. It is important to have your rabbits vaccinated and to keep your rabbit indoors 100%, even with the vaccine as the vaccine is not 100%. There are many misconceptions about rabbits being safe on a patio or in an enclosed back yard. But this disease can spread through infected insects such as mosquitoes and fleas. It can also be walked in your home if you have walked in an area where there are infected cottontails or domestic rabbits.

All rabbits coming to Bunny Bunch or Bunny Bunch Boutique for bunny dates, boarding, grooming, nail trims, tooth trims must have proof (Prior to appointment) of receiving the vaccine eight days prior to arriving.
