Bid on these unique bunny statues and knitted bunnies at our Silent Auction event, starting now!

These beautifully cute bunny statues were painted by one of our very talented volunteers to help us raise money to keep rescuing rabbits. They are 11” tall and will make a wonderful addition to your home or office. They are painted one of a kind. We even have one unpainted which will be painted to look like your rabbit, for one lucky winner. Plus, we have two of our famous knitted bunnies in this auction too!

This auction will begin on the Bunny Bunch Rabbit Rescue Facebook page today, Monday, May 1st, 2023, starting at 10 AM PST. Winners will be announced on our official Bunny Mom Day, Sunday, May 7th at 5 PM PST.

Instructions:
You may now begin to bid on the bunny statues and knitted rabbits for our fundraiser. Please read these instructions carefully.
Comment on each photo with the amount you wish to bid. Starting bid for each bunny statue is $30.00. You can buy out for a $100 donation. Starting bid for our Bunny Bunch knitted collectible bunnies is $50. Buy out is $100.
Bids must start at starting price or higher. Bid in $5 increments. For example, $45, $50, $55, etc. Keep checking back because others will be bidding too!
When the auction has ended, Bunny Bunch will confirm you are the winner by commenting.
Comment the “Buy Now” price to automatically become the winner. For example, if the “Buy Now” price is $100, comment $100 or more. The first person to do so will be the winner of the knitted rabbit or bunny statue. You’ll be notified immediately to provide us with more information so we can calculate your final price if shipping is needed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you’re viewing an item, make sure you select “all comments” so you can see all the bids that have been placed. This way, you won’t miss out on any bids that may outbid yours. Happy bidding!

RVHD2 Vaccine Information!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Some of the vets are not doing the US Medgene RHVD2 vaccine correctly for the first time your rabbit gets it.
We have been in touch with them about this. The US Medgene vaccine is a TWO-DOSE vaccine.

You get the first one, then three weeks later you get the second one. Then two weeks after the second one, your rabbit is protected. So it takes five weeks total to be effective.

The above applies even if your rabbit was vaccinated the previous year, with the imported one-dose vaccine.

Check your paperwork from the vet and see if it was done correctly. If you need help email me the paperwork at caroline@bunnybunch.org.

Also, don’t forget that RHVD2 is an annual vaccine. With the holidays coming your rabbits must be 100% protected in order to come in for boarding with us. Plus, for grooming, dates, and events.

Hot Weather Alert!

It’s 111 degrees at my house today and it’s staying hot for a while. Such a dangerous time for rabbits and other animals to overheat and die outdoors and indoors.

Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, cats, and dogs (plus other animals) all need to be indoors with AC to stay cool.

What if there is a blackout and your AC goes out? Have a backup plan. Talk to friends, relatives, and coworkers to see if you can take your animals to their homes. Of course with COVID and RVHD2, it makes it harder but there is always a way to come up with a safe plan for you and your rabbit.

Many AC systems can be tracked on your phone. So while you are away from home you can control your thermostat and see what the temperature is in your home. You can also sign up with Southern California Edison to get text alerts about rolling blackouts.

I keep my home at around 74 degrees to keep all the rabbits, chinchillas, guinea pigs, cats, and dogs cool and comfortable.

Here are ways to help keep cool.

*Frozen Water Bottles

Freeze two-liter soda bottles. Be sure to remove the label. Fill with water and freeze. Make sure you have spares in the freezer so as they melt you can replace them. Some rabbits lay right against them while others prefer material such as a sock, light towel, or pillow case wrapped around the bottle.

*Cooling Tiles

Put down cooling tiles for your rabbit, chinchillas, and guinea pigs to lay on. BunnyBunchBoutique.com carries a Chin Chilla Cooling Stone they work great for rabbits and guinea pigs too. For rabbits, I suggest getting two to lay together. You can even wet them, and put them in the fridge for extra cooling. BunnyBunchBoutique.com Curbside or Shipping.

*If your rabbit is breathing hard due to the heat put some cool water on a washcloth. Wring out the water and apply the washcloth to the rabbit’s ears.

*Always have a crock or two of clean coolish water for your rabbit to drink. Rabbits don’t tend to drink enough water when the water is given in a water bottle, crocks work better.

*In Your Home

A fan will not cool a rabbit, but it can help circulate the air. Keeping blinds and curtains closed will help stop heat coming in through the windows so your AC doesn’t have to work so hard.

If you don’t have central AC consider getting a wall unit, or portable AC unit.

Signs of Over Heating

*Rabbits don’t pant, but you will notice when they are breathing harder by watching their body moving in and out.

*They will normally be in a stretched-out laying down position.

*Their head can be in a slightly tilted back position.

*The fur around their nose and mouth can become wet.

Any of the above signs are dangerous and mean your rabbit needs to be cooled down right away. In some cases, vet care is needed immediately.

How to Cool Down A Rabbit

ACT QUICKLY! Your rabbit can die from being overheated.

*If possible get into air conditioning right away. If you don’t have it in your home start your car and get it cooled down to take the rabbit in there.

*Cool the ears by placing a wet cool wash cloth both inside and outside of both ears.

*Lay the rabbit on a wet cool towel.

*Offer cool water to drink.

*If you happen to have subq fluids give them to help hydrate the rabbit, as long as there isn’t a medical condition in which case subq fluids can’t be used.

Please do what you can to keep your animals cool before they get to the point of overheating. Through the years I have received many calls where people have found their animals dead from overheating.

If vet care may be needed be sure to take everything you need to cool your rabbit down on the drive to the vet.

Prevention is the best remedy. Be prepared and keep cool!

MORE RABBITS ARE BEING DUMPED THAN EVER BEFORE

To all those people dumping rabbits in parks, fields, in boxes by the trash, in dumpsters, or anywhere else. You are giving your rabbit a death sentence. Domestic rabbits can not survive outside. They may make it a few days, sometimes a few weeks but they will be killed by predators eventually. Now with RVHD2 a deadly virus to rabbits you are putting them in danger of getting a horrible deadly disease.

Wild rabbits dig burrows and go underground to get away from the heat and predators, and are much faster and aware of the danger. Domestic rabbits don’t know how to do that. They will have horrible deaths outside, they don’t know how to protect themselves from predators and the heat. By dumping your rabbit you are killing it.

This year has been the worst year I can remember in over thirty years of rescue. I am getting calls all day long about unwanted rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas.

People, PLEASE do your research before getting a rabbit it’s a twelve to the fourteen-year commitment of caring for them. Guinea pigs around an eight to ten-year commitment, and chinchillas a twenty-year commitment.

Do NOT get rabbits for children. They are not toys, they don’t like to be held or played with. What happens when the children are not interested in the rabbit anymore or when it’s time to go off to college or move out? Will you care for the rabbit? People often say yes, but when the time comes that answer often changes.

Rabbits are a lot of care and vet care is very expensive. If your rabbit becomes ill (and they often do) you can easily end up with a $500 vet bill, just to start with. Are you prepared and able to do this?

YOU can stop this horrible problem for rabbits by doing lots of research and talking to your local rabbit rescues all about rabbits BEFORE you get a rabbit.

No animal deserves to die because of human ignorance!

Bunny Bunch is very lucky to have lots of wonderful adopters that know what it’s like to have a rabbit and have given many of our rabbit’s wonderful homes. Please share this message in hopes of stopping more rabbits from being dumped.
