Ask Caroline “Why does my rabbit scratch his ears?”

Rabbits scratch their ears to loosen up the wax in their ears to help clean them. It’s a good idea to check inside your rabbit’s ears to make sure there is no wax build-up. Or another type of debris, such as ear mites or an ear infection. If you think something is wrong it’s time for a vet check.

Older rabbits, disabled rabbits, and rabbits with a missing back leg, often need our help to keep their ears clean.
I can show you how to do this. Or your rabbit vet can too. Never clean your rabbit’s ears before you have been showed how to do it.
