As our rabbits get older they can start to get conditions just like people do when they get older, such as arthritis , heart conditions, kidney disease, and cancer. The key to keeping your rabbit healthy and living a long life is a healthy diet, lots of exercise, living indoors and vet care with a knowledge exotic vet.
Annual vet checks are very important, early detection of any illness can make a huge difference to your rabbits well being. When a rabbit is middle age (around five to six years old, I suggest getting annual X-rays and blood work, a vet check every six months. This way if a condition is detected treatment can be started right away which will help your rabbit live that long life you are hoping for.
I also believe rabbits live longer when they live with at least one other rabbit. They support each other, groom each other and love each other.
