Rabbits love a place to hang out inside a hidey house. It gives them the feeling of being safe in a burrow. They will sleep in there, relax in there and just hang out in there. 

If a rabbit is startled by a noise or movement they need a place to run to and feel safe. Hidey houses come in all shapes and sizes. This hidey house is the Carrot House from Bunny Bunch Boutique. I designed it about ten years ago. It took me about a year to do so to get it just right. After doing lots of different proto types I found having a front and back door was something the rabbits liked best as they liked to be able to run through it, and often do so while playing. I added a send story where they can go up and take a nap.

It’s nice and big too so two or three rabbits can go in at the same time. Plus I have found my cats love it and I found my little dog in there too once.  I have them all through my house and my rabbits love them.

You’re right…It’s Clair Bear!

Some of you may remember she was rescued four years ago as a tiny baby at around five days old.

Someone saw a tied up shopping bag moving in a park at night time. Upon opening, they found three tiny baby rabbits. Sadly, two baby rabbits died, but luckily, Clair Bear made it.

As you can see by all the posts on our social media, she ended up staying at my house. She even has a husbun now, which Caroline will have to post about sometime too.

People often call Caroline asking if we have rabbits that like to be held. Well, there are some rabbits that don’t mind it too much for a short period of time. But, the truth is rabbits like all four feet on the ground.

This is why before you get a rabbit, you need to learn all about rabbits. People often expect that they are going to be like a cuddly toy rabbit. But that’s not the case. This is why they are not good for children as most children want to pick them up and hold them. If the rabbit gets scared, the child can get scratched and the rabbit gets dropped.

Don’t get us wrong! Rabbits are sweet, gentle endearing creatures. They can have great loving relationships with their humans. You just have to learn the best way to live with a rabbit.

We love to lay down on the floor and wait for one of my rabbits to see us doing so. Without fail, they will come running over and lay down with us to get ear rubs and head strokes. Sometimes. they become playful and run around us and jump on our my back. Then they settle down again for some more love.

Try laying down on the floor with your rabbits! It’s a great way to spend time with them on their terms.

We got a call about a rabbit in one of the local shelters. She is a big bunny, too big for the cages they had to keep her in. We were also told that she was an aggressive rabbit (probably from living in a small space and not being spayed).  Plus when they went to spay her they found part of the intestines were stuck to the uterus so they couldn’t do the spay. So we rescued her.  Once she settled in at Bunny Bunch she blossomed. She absolutely loves to have gentle head and ear strokes. She loves play time running around and even did a binky. We are thank full they reached out for help.

We need to do exploratory surgery to see what is going on and to see if she can be spayed.

If the male is left in with the mother when she gives birth chances are he will mate her right after giving birth and 30 days later another litter will be born. At three months the babies can start mating. An average litter is around 6 babies, but we have seen liters of ten or more in some cases. it will just go on and on until there are hundreds of rabbits.

We just rescued 10 rabbits today from the same home. When we do a rescue like this we require that we take all the rabbits, or that any rabbits left in the home are spayed or neutered.

Bunny Bunch gets hundreds of calls all the time to take in rabbits. We only have so much room. Sadly rabbits end up at kill shelters or are turned away from the shelters in which case they end up being dumped in parks where they can’t survive.

]]> Rabbits scratch their ears to loosen up the wax in their ears to help clean them. It’s a good idea to check inside your rabbit’s ears to make sure there is no wax build-up. Or another type of debris, such as ear mites or an ear infection. If you think something is wrong it’s time for a vet check.

Older rabbits, disabled rabbits, and rabbits with a missing back leg, often need our help to keep their ears clean.
I can show you how to do this. Or your rabbit vet can too. Never clean your rabbit’s ears before you have been showed how to do it.
